US President Donald Trump has publicly criticized Pope Leo XIV, saying he is “not a big fan” of the Catholic leader following the Pope’s recent appeal for global peace.

Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump described the pontiff as “very liberal” and accused him of being soft on crime and foreign policy. He also took issue with the Pope’s stance on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, insisting he does not support a religious leader who he believes is undermining efforts to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Trump later reinforced his comments on social media, stating that he does not want a Pope who supports Iran having nuclear capability or who criticizes US military actions abroad. His remarks came shortly after Pope Leo XIV called on world leaders to end violence and prioritize peace, urging an end to war and the display of power.

The Vatican and US officials have recently denied reports of tension between both sides, even as public disagreements continue over issues such as immigration, war, and international diplomacy.Category: World PoliticsTa
