UAE Shortens Workday, Adjusts School Hours in Preparation for Ramadan

UAE Adjusts Schedules for Ramadan 2025

As Ramadan 2025 approaches (expected to begin on March 1, subject to the moon sighting), the UAE has announced adjustments to its work, school, and business schedules to ensure a smooth transition into the holy month.

Key changes include shortened work hours, free parking during iftar (the evening meal that breaks the daily fast), and adjusted school schedules, all aimed at easing daily routines for residents during this period of fasting and prayer.

* Reduced Work Hours: Private sector employees, including non-Muslims, will enjoy a shorter workday as mandated by Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022.

* Free Parking and Adjusted Toll Charges:

* Parking fees will be waived from 6pm to 8pm daily, providing free parking during iftar.

* Salik toll charges will be reduced during off-peak hours (7am-9am and 5pm-2am) to Dh4, with peak hour charges remaining at Dh6 (9am-5pm).

* Adjusted School Schedules: While official school timings for 2025 are still pending, private schools are expected to follow a similar schedule to last year, with shorter school days and early Friday dismissals.

* Extended Mall Hours and Late-Night Dining: Malls will extend their operating hours to cater to evening shoppers, and restaurants will primarily operate after dusk.

These adjustments reflect the UAE’s commitment to balancing the cultural significance of Ramadan with the needs of its diverse population. By offering shorter workdays, free parking, and extended business hours, the country aims to create a more comfortable and convenient environment for all residents during the holy month.

Ramadan:

Ramadan is considered the holiest month in Islam, commemorating the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is a period of intense spiritual reflection, characterized by fasting, prayer, and charitable giving. The month culminates in the joyous celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
