WHY NIGERIANS CAN’T TRUST OPPOSITION PARTIES, BY YILWATDA

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said Nigerians cannot place their trust in opposition parties, citing their ongoing internal crises as proof that they are not prepared to govern.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Abimbola Tooki, Yilwatda said parties struggling with internal disputes lack the capacity to manage a country as complex as Nigeria.

Speaking in Abuja, he stressed that any political platform unable to manage its own affairs cannot be trusted with national leadership.

“A party that cannot govern itself cannot govern Nigeria,” he said. “If a political platform is constantly trapped in self-inflicted crisis, consumed by internal sabotage, and weakened by poor management, it simply has no business asking Nigerians for the mandate to lead this country.”

Yilwatda described the APC as a tested and resilient political platform with the structure, experience, and national spread required to handle Nigeria’s governance challenges. He said the ruling party is not a loose coalition, but a stable organisation built to respond to the needs of citizens.

“We are the only party with the institutional strength and national reach to carry the weight of both the present and the future of this country,” he added.

According to him, the APC remains focused on strengthening governance, deepening democratic values, and rebuilding public trust. He acknowledged that governance involves difficult decisions but said the party is committed to reforms that will ensure long-term stability and prosperity.

He also emphasised that the party believes in winning elections through the support of the people rather than relying on legal technicalities.

“Victory is sweeter when it is earned. It is more legitimate when it is freely given by the people,” he said.

On security, Yilwatda pointed to the ongoing mass trials of terrorism suspects as evidence of the government’s commitment to tackling insecurity through both military and judicial means. He said the administration is addressing security challenges through a combination of operations, intelligence, and legal processes.

He further described Osun State as a key political battleground ahead of the 2027 elections, urging party members to remain united and disciplined.

Reaffirming the APC’s commitment to national development, Yilwatda said the party is prepared to continue the work of strengthening security, driving economic recovery, and moving the country forward.

“Nigeria needs steadiness, structure, courage, and capacity. The APC represents that responsibility. We are not perfect, but we are prepared, tested, and committed to doing the hard work,” he said.
