WHY WE’RE IMPEACHING FUBARA — RIVERS ASSEMBLY

The Rivers State House of Assembly has stated that the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy is due to their alleged repeated violation of peace agreements brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Majority Leader of the House, Major Jack, made this known on Thursday while presenting the report detailing the alleged misconduct of the governor during impeachment proceedings.

According to him, President Tinubu intervened twice to resolve the political rift between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, but the governor failed to honour the agreements reached.

“The governor and his deputy have continued to act as tyrants and have shown no genuine commitment to transparency and good governance in Rivers State,” Jack said.
“They have repeatedly breached and backtracked on the peace agreements facilitated by the President of this country, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The governor and his deputy failed to adhere to the terms reached during the peace meeting in December 2023 and another agreement in 2025.”

The Assembly recalled that the political crisis in Rivers State, triggered by the prolonged feud between Fubara and Wike, led President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in the state in March 2025.

As a result, Governor Fubara and other elected officials were suspended for six months. He later resumed office in September 2025 after the emergency rule was lifted, following another peace accord brokered by President Tinubu in June 2025 involving Fubara, Wike and their respective supporters.
