WIKE’S PDP FACTION RE-ELECTS ABDULRAHMAN MOHAMMED, SAM ANYANWU AS CHAIR, SECRETARY

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has re-elected Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu as national chairman and national secretary.

The duo, alongside other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), emerged through a consensus arrangement during the faction’s elective national convention held on Sunday at the velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Their re-election followed a motion by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to dissolve the party’s national caretaker committee.

Speaking at the event, former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, called on aggrieved members to return to the party, assuring them of forgiveness.

“We are willing to forgive everyone. Come back, stay focused, and return to the PDP,” he said.

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki also expressed confidence in the party’s strength, describing it as resilient and deeply rooted in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Similarly, House of Representatives Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda urged party members to unite ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing the need to reclaim lost political ground.

Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro noted that many members who opposed reconciliation had already left the party, adding that only a few governors remained. He also commended Wike for his continued loyalty to the PDP.

In his remarks, Wike called on members to stay committed to rebuilding the party, emphasising that leadership requires dedication and responsibility. He expressed confidence that the PDP would field candidates in the 2027 elections and reclaim its political influence.

The development comes amid ongoing internal divisions within the PDP, which remains split into rival factions. Earlier, a separate group led by Kabiru Turaki had approached the Supreme Court seeking to stop the Wike-backed camp from holding the convention.
