The announcement was made on Monday, March 9, 2026, by the state’s deputy governor, Mani Malam Mummuni, who confirmed that the governor and key members of the state leadership had decided to align with the ruling party. The declaration was shared through a video message that quickly circulated online.

The decision follows increasing calls from political groups and influential stakeholders within Zamfara urging the governor to collaborate more closely with the party in control at the federal level. Supporters of the move believe it could improve cooperation with the central government and open more opportunities for development and security support.

For years, Zamfara State has struggled with serious security concerns, including bandit attacks, kidnappings, and violence in rural communities. These challenges have placed pressure on the state’s resources and security system. Some observers argue that political alignment with the ruling party may help strengthen efforts to address these issues through better coordination with federal authorities.

In recent weeks, several politicians in the state—including lawmakers and party officials—have also left the PDP for the APC, further intensifying calls for the governor to make a similar move.

The development is seen as strengthening the political position of Nigeria’s president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the APC continues to expand its influence across the country. With more than 30 of Nigeria’s 36 states now under the party’s control, analysts say the ruling party’s dominance may shape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
