11 KILLED, 9 INJURED AS CAR CRASHES INTO TREE IN JIGAWA

No fewer than 11 people have been confirmed dead, while nine others sustained injuries in a fatal road accident in Jigawa State.

The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at Bagewu village in Ringim Local Government Area of the state.

The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the accident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam.

According to the police, the crash involved a red Volkswagen Golf 3 saloon car with registration number LNG 983 XA (Jos), driven by a 45-year-old man from Randawa village in Mani Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The vehicle was reportedly overloaded, conveying 20 passengers made up of six men, eight women and six children.

SP Adam said the car was travelling from Masaka village in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State to Dutsi village in Mani Local Government Area of Katsina State when the accident occurred.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle’s front tyre burst while in motion, causing the driver to lose control before crashing into a tree.

“As a result of the impact, 11 passengers died instantly, while the remaining nine occupants, including the driver, sustained varying degrees of injuries,” the statement said.

The injured victims were rushed to the nearest hospital, where they are currently responding to treatment.

The police said a full investigation into the crash has commenced, while motorists were warned against speeding, overloading and poor vehicle maintenance.

The command urged drivers to always ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey, stressing that traffic offenders would be arrested and prosecuted.
