#20-Year-Old Arrested for Fatal Stabbing of Emir Sanusi’s Guard During Eid Prayers in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Usman Sagiru, for allegedly stabbing to death a guard of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II during Eid prayers.

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Eid ground, resulting in the death of a vigilante member and injuries to another security officer, who is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Hospital in Kano.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspect, a resident of Sharifai Quarters, was apprehended in connection with the attack. The police have also invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning as investigations continue.

The Kano State Police Command reiterated its ban on all Durbar activities, warning that anyone caught violating the directive or engaging in public disturbances would face legal action. The authorities also condemned the rise in thuggery (Daba) and assured residents that decisive measures would be taken to maintain public order.

“We appeal to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure a peaceful and secure environment,” the police statement read.

The Command assured that all those involved in the attack will be brought to justice and urged residents to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
