Key opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former LP vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, convened in Abuja on Monday.
The high-profile gathering is taking place at the Continental Hotel in the Federal Capital Territory under the auspices of the National Political Consultative Group (North).
The closed-door meeting is believed to be part of ongoing discussions around building a coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Atiku confirmed his arrival at the venue in a post on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a video of himself exchanging pleasantries with Peter Obi and other stakeholders.
“Peter Obi and I just arrived at the Abuja Continental Hotel for the National Political Consultative Group (North) event. – AA,” the former vice president wrote.
Possible Coalition Talks
While speculation is mounting that Atiku may be considering Peter Obi as his running mate for the 2027 election, no official announcement has been made regarding the platform under which such a coalition would contest.

However, in a separate viral video, Peter Obi reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, stating that he intends to run in 2027 under the LP banner.
The presence of key political figures at the meeting signals what may be the early stages of realignment and collaboration among opposition forces ahead of the next general election.
