2027: INSECURITY AIMED AT FRUSTRATING POLLS – SEN KARIMI RAISES ALARM

The lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sunday Karimi, has expressed concern over the ongoing wave of terrorism and banditry across Nigeria, warning that the insecurity may be politically motivated to disrupt the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Sunday, Karimi noted that despite active operations by security agencies, persistent attacks suggest an agenda to make parts of the country ungovernable.

“Certain interests and tendencies are determined to continue destabilising the country, with the ultimate aim of undermining the forthcoming general elections,” he said.

Karimi also highlighted the achievements of the Tinubu administration, citing improvements in the economy, reductions in product prices, increased salaries for university lecturers, and a strengthening of Nigeria’s foreign reserves.

“Despite these positive developments, some elements remain opposed to the gradual resurgence of the economy,” he added.

The senator commended efforts to enhance national security, including collaborations with international partners such as the U.S., which recently conducted intelligence-led operations in Sokoto State.

He further noted that the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has proposed deploying retired military personnel to secure ungoverned areas, complementing initiatives like forest guard deployments and the recruitment of 50,000 new police officers.

Reassuring Nigerians, Karimi affirmed the National Assembly’s support for the president, emphasizing that these measures are designed to ensure democratic stability and credible elections in 2027.
