There was a touch of political drama on Monday at the unveiling of the book “Fintiri, the Man They Could Not Stop,” as Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule openly courted Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during the event, Sule revealed that he had come along with a “Tinubu infinity cap” for Fintiri, suggesting he was ready to welcome him into the APC if he chose to switch parties.
He said Fintiri’s leadership approach and values closely align with those of the APC, insisting that the Adamawa governor would fit naturally into the party.
“You have the APC in your DNA. We’re on the same page with you. I even brought Tinubu’s infinity cap in case you’re thinking of joining the APC,” Sule said, as seen in a video from the event that has since circulated online.
The Nasarawa governor also pointed to what he described as the APC’s recent political expansion across several states, hinting that Adamawa could be next.
“Your Excellency, you have seen us going to Delta, Enugu, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Kano, Plateau and Taraba. Who knows, this may be another expedition I’m coming to do,” he added.
Reflecting on his own experience as a second-term governor, Sule spoke about the pressures of leadership and advised Fintiri to remain focused on purposeful governance.
“As a governor in my second term, I understand the weight of leadership, the loneliness of decision-making and the courage it takes to govern with conviction under pressure,” he said.
“Leadership is not about popularity at all costs. It is about clarity of purpose, consistency in service, patience and the fear of God.”
The APC has continued to attract defections from opposition parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with several governors reportedly joining the ruling party in recent months. Last month, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf also moved to the APC.
The exchange has sparked conversations about whether Fintiri will consider the invitation to defect.
