President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly cautioned his supporters and political groups to halt all premature re-election campaigns, including the display of billboards promoting his 2027 presidential bid.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency expressed concern over the growing appearance of campaign billboards in major cities like Abuja and Kano. These billboards prominently feature President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, sparking speculation about early political maneuvering.

The statement, titled “Presidency Disclaims 2027 Campaign Billboards Nationwide,” made it clear that the President has not authorized any individual or group to begin campaigning in any form — whether through billboards, print media, radio, digital platforms, or television.
“While President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima sincerely appreciate the enthusiasm and loyalty of their supporters, they do not endorse any campaign that contravenes Nigerian law,” the statement read.
Onanuga emphasized that the Electoral Act strictly prohibits early campaigning, warning that such activities can undermine Nigeria’s democratic process and confer unfair political advantages.
“As law-abiding leaders, President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima will not support any action that could damage public trust in electoral institutions or breach existing regulations,” Onanuga stated.

The Presidency also reaffirmed that the administration’s current focus remains on delivering good governance. President Tinubu, according to the statement, is committed to tackling critical national issues such as economic growth, infrastructure renewal, social welfare, education, and national security.
“Until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially releases the timetable for the 2027 general elections, President Tinubu has not declared any intention to seek re-election,” Onanuga added.

He concluded by assuring the public that any political declaration by the President will be made openly and in full compliance with the law, at the appropriate time.
