A 23-year-old Nigerian woman, Oluwalayomi Fadero, has died in a tragic car crash in the United States following a high-speed collision involving a fleeing driver.

The incident happened on March 20, 2026, in Nashville. Fadero, popularly known as Layo, was reportedly driving home with her dog when a stolen Ford truck, being chased by police, drove against traffic and crashed into her vehicle. She died instantly at the scene, while her dog survived.

The driver, 52-year-old Ray Padgett, sustained minor injuries and was arrested after receiving treatment. Authorities say he is facing multiple felony charges, including vehicular homicide. He was also on parole at the time of the crash and reportedly had nearly 20 prior felony convictions.

Layo was a graduate of Fisk University and was pursuing an accelerated nursing degree before her untimely death. Her passing has left family, friends, and members of her community devastated.

The tragedy has sparked fresh concerns about public safety and the handling of repeat offenders, with many questioning how individuals with long criminal histories are allowed back into society.

Her death serves as a painful reminder of how quickly life can change, cutting short a future filled with promise and ambition.
