On October 16, 2025, the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted 59 foreign nationals from China and Malaysia for their roles in a major cybercrime syndicate, as part of a Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre operation. The convictions stem from a November 3, 2024, raid in Jahi, Abuja, where 130 suspects—113 foreigners and 17 Nigerians—were arrested for large-scale internet fraud, hacking, and other cybercrimes threatening national security.
Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin reported that 21 suspects were convicted in August 2025, five in September, and the latest 59 bring the total to 85. The convictions were supported by robust digital forensic evidence. Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun emphasized that these actions signal Nigeria’s intolerance for cybercrime, with the police leveraging advanced technology and international cooperation to dismantle such networks.
The EFCC and Nigerian Immigration Service have repatriated 102 convicted foreign nationals since August 15, 2025, including 50 Chinese and one Tunisian, as part of ongoing efforts to curb cybercrime in Nigeria.
