#9 Dead, 21 Injured in Katsina Road Accident – FRSC Confirms

Nine people lost their lives, and 21 others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident in Dankama, Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The incident, detailed in a statement by Sector Commander Aliyu Ma’aji and signed by Command Public Relations Officer Shamsudeen Babajo, occurred when a trailer carrying both passengers and livestock detached from its main body and fell onto the roadside pavement.

Cause of the Accident

The crash reportedly happened as the trailer driver attempted to avoid hitting a woman who had fallen off a Golf car overloaded with beans. The Sector Commander explained that the driver’s maneuver to avoid the woman led to the trailer’s separation and eventual crash.

Casualties and Medical Response

The accident claimed the lives of nine individuals, while 21 others sustained various degrees of injuries. The injured were initially taken to the Primary Healthcare Center in Kaita for treatment, with some later referred to Katsina General Hospital and the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina, due to the severity of their injuries.

Safety Warnings from FRSC

In response to the tragic incident, the FRSC Sector Commander urged drivers to refrain from transporting livestock alongside human passengers, highlighting the dangers of such practices.

He also appealed to passengers to speak out against overloading and reckless driving, emphasizing the need for vigilance and adherence to safety standards to reduce road accidents on highways.

The FRSC continues to emphasize road safety awareness and enforcement to curb such avoidable tragedies.
