The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of a 96-year-old woman, Habiba Ado, who was discovered dead inside a toilet pit (suckaway) in Sarai Village, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.
According to the Fire Service spokesperson, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullah, the agency received a distress call around 9:27 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from a resident identified as Usman Adamu, reporting that a woman had fallen into a toilet pit.
Abdullah stated that the agency’s Emergency Response Unit, led by the Director, Alh. Sani Anas, immediately deployed a rescue team to the scene. Unfortunately, when they arrived, the woman had already passed away.
Relatives of the deceased revealed that Habiba Ado had been missing for four days before the tragic discovery and was reportedly battling mental health issues.
Her body was later recovered and handed over to the village head, Musa Muhammad, for burial arrangements.
The Fire Service appealed to residents to ensure that all open pits and soakaways are properly sealed to prevent future accidents, especially involving children and the elderly.
