#Lagos Lawmakers, Stakeholders Reject Obasa’s Bid for Reinstatement

Efforts by impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, to reclaim his position appear to be failing, as lawmakers, party stakeholders, and the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) reject his overtures.

Obasa, who was removed by 34 members of the Assembly on January 13, has allegedly resorted to offering financial incentives in a desperate bid to regain the speakership. However, lawmakers have dismissed these attempts, insisting that he will soon have to explain to anti-corruption agencies the source of the funds.

The GAC, the highest decision-making body in the Lagos APC, also rebuffed Obasa’s approach, making it clear that their principles are not for sale. Stakeholders within the party have expressed strong opposition to his return, citing his leadership style as arrogant, authoritarian, and lacking intelligence.

A prominent political figure, Comrade Olonishakin Akimkugbe of the Democratic Alliance, criticized any federal backing for Obasa, warning that if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is relying on him to manage Lagos APC affairs, it could backfire. He urged the presidency to focus on national governance rather than interfering in Lagos State politics, emphasizing that the state already has an executive governor.
