#Former Presidential Spokesperson Doyin Okupe Passes Away at 72

Doyin Okupe, former presidential spokesperson and political strategist, has died at the age of 72. His passing was confirmed on Friday, March 7, 2025.

According to family sources, Dr. Okupe had been critically ill in recent weeks, with his death linked to cancer. He had a long history of battling prostate cancer, first diagnosed 16 years ago, and later developed sarcoma in his right shoulder. In October 2023, he was hospitalized for prostate cancer treatment and was flown to Israel for further medical care. However, his condition did not improve as expected.

Okupe was a key figure in Nigerian politics, serving as the Director-General of Peter Obi’s 2023 Presidential Campaign before stepping down due to a court conviction for money laundering. Following the election, he resigned from the Labour Party and later became an outspoken supporter of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He also served as a senior adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan and held various influential roles throughout his political career.
