#Wike: Tinubu asks Fubara to obey Supreme Court judgement on Rivers crisis (Video)

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for full compliance with the Supreme Court’s ruling on the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, urging all stakeholders to uphold the rule of law.

The court recently nullified the 2023 local government elections and recognized Martin Amaewhule and his faction as legitimate members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Following the verdict, the Assembly—loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike—issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to submit the 2025 budget, while the state APC threatened impeachment, escalating tensions.

Speaking to Niger Delta leaders under the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) at the Presidential Villa, Tinubu emphasized the importance of adhering to judicial decisions.

“This is a nation governed by the rule of law. I should not be here as President without the rule of law. Once the court has spoken, that is it,” said Tinubu, as quoted by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga. “Please go back home and ensure the ruling is implemented. Help counsel the governor and pursue the path of peace and stability.”

The President acknowledged his prior attempts to prevent the crisis, revealing that both parties had signed a written agreement.

“Yes, the Niger Delta is the goose that lays the golden egg. We must care for the goose; otherwise, we lose the golden egg,” Tinubu added.

PANDEF Co-Chairman, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, commended Tinubu for his commitment to the South-South region and his administration’s appointments of Niger Delta indigenes.

The meeting followed an Iftar dinner hosted by Tinubu, attended by both Governor Fubara and Minister Wike, alongside top government officials.
