This initiative was unveiled alongside the official distribution of essential relief materials to low-income earners and the poor across the state.

N1 Billion Food Subsidy Program for Civil Servants

Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Dadi-Adare, confirmed the development on Monday during a training session for shop facilitators. He stated that the government has launched a N1 billion food subsidy program targeting civil servants and low-income earners across six local government areas.

The pilot phase of the initiative will focus on:

  • Dange Shuni
  • Wamakko
  • Bodinga
  • Kware
  • Sokoto North
  • Sokoto South

According to Alhaji Chiso Dattijo, Chairman of the Implementation Committee, the program is primarily designed to support state and local government employees, including primary school teachers.

Eligible workers will be able to purchase essential food items worth up to 30% of their monthly salary, with a maximum spending limit of N15,000 per worker.

The Sokoto government plans to expand the program to additional local government areas in the near future to further cushion the impact of rising food prices.
