#Tinubu Commends Akpabio, Abbas for Backing Rivers State Emergency Rule

President Bola Tinubu has praised the National Assembly for approving the State of Emergency in Rivers State, describing the decision as a “decisive and patriotic” step toward restoring stability in the crisis-hit state.

In a statement on Thursday, Tinubu expressed confidence that the emergency measures would help resolve the prolonged political turmoil that had crippled governance and threatened key economic assets.

He specifically lauded Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and other lawmakers for prioritizing the security and welfare of Rivers State residents above partisan interests.

“The crisis in Rivers State reached a perilous tipping point, jeopardizing vital oil and gas infrastructure and undermining national economic progress. Given the risks of widespread violence and governance collapse, urgent action was necessary,” Tinubu stated.

Quoting the President, his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, reiterated that the emergency rule was implemented to protect lives, secure critical federal assets, and restore democratic governance.

The six-month emergency rule grants the newly-appointed Sole Administrator the authority to restore order, address systemic failures, and mediate conflicts among political actors in the state.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to collaboration with the National Assembly, Tinubu emphasized the importance of unity in fostering peace, economic resilience, and national development.

“Today’s decision showcases what we can achieve when patriotism and a shared purpose guide our leadership. We remain committed to building a safer, more prosperous Nigeria where every citizen’s potential is protected and nurtured,” he concluded.
