#Kano Emirate Crisis: Fire will consume those threatening Kano peace,’ Emir Sanusi blows hot

The ongoing battle for the Kano Emirate throne continues to spark tension as Emir Lamido Sanusi issues a stern warning to those opposing his reinstatement.

In a voice message in Hausa shared on Facebook by Premier Radio Kano, Sanusi urged residents to remain law-abiding while condemning those seeking to disrupt the peace.

“This conflict is not about me—it is a fight against destiny. God’s will cannot be challenged. I urge everyone to be patient and prayerful. Justice will prevail,” he said.

Sanusi also issued a strong warning, stating, “Fire will consume anyone trying to set Kano ablaze. May such people never find peace.”

The emir’s remarks come amid heightened tensions following Governor Abba Yusuf’s directive for the emirate councils to begin preparations for the Sallah durbar festival. Sanusi’s rival, Aminu Ado Bayero, responded by notifying security agencies of his intention to hold a parallel durbar, marking his fifth year as emir.

The dispute stems from last May’s decision by the state government to depose Ado Bayero and reinstate Sanusi under a revised emirates law. While Sanusi occupies the main palace, Ado Bayero continues to challenge his removal in court and has taken residence in a separate palace.

As both claimants assert their authority, Kano remains on edge, with fears that the emirate tussle could escalate further.
