World Bank Approves $632 Million Loan to Enhance Nutrition and Education in Nigeria

By the National Patriots.

The World Bank has approved a $632 million loan to Nigeria, aimed at improving nutrition and basic education. This funding includes $80 million for the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria 2.0 project and $552 million for the HOPE for Quality Basic Education for All program.

These initiatives are designed to address malnutrition among children and enhance the quality of basic education, both crucial for Nigeria’s long-term development.

However, the approval of this loan adds to Nigeria’s rising debt profile, sparking concerns about increasing financial obligations. In 2025 alone, Nigeria is set to receive six new loans from the World Bank, totaling $2.23 billion, covering areas such as healthcare, digital infrastructure, and education. This will bring Nigeria’s total World Bank loans to $9.25 billion in three years.

While these funds provide essential support, Nigeria has already spent $5.47 billion on external debt servicing in the past 14 months. The challenge remains in balancing financial assistance with sustainable debt management to ensure long-term economic stability.
