Lagos Health District IV, in partnership with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and key health partners, has officially kicked off the 2025 National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) campaign. The initiative is underway across four Local Government Areas (LGAs) and five Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
According to a statement by Michael Oputeh, Public Affairs Officer for District IV, the campaign aims to administer two drops of oral polio vaccine to all children aged 0–5 years. Dr. Abimbola Bowale, Permanent Secretary of Health District IV, emphasized that this campaign is essential to sustaining Lagos State’s polio-free status and preventing any resurgence of the virus, especially following Nigeria’s wild poliovirus-free certification in August 2020.
“The campaign is vital to interrupting the transmission of circulating variant poliovirus and ensuring that every child under five is protected from polio—a disease that can lead to permanent disability or death,” Dr. Bowale said.
The campaign will cover communities within Lagos Island, Apapa, Lagos Mainland, and Surulere LGAs, as well as Lagos Island East, Apapa Iganmu, Yaba, Itire-Ikate, and Coker-Aguda LCDAs.
Vaccination teams will conduct outreach in homes, schools, markets, religious centers, and other public locations to ensure that no child is left behind.
Dr. Bowale urged parents and caregivers to take full advantage of the opportunity, reassuring them that the vaccines are safe, free, and effective.
In preparation, a circular was issued to inform members of the social mobilization team of their roles and responsibilities throughout the campaign period.
