#Defence Minister Claims Over 8,000 Terrorists and Bandits Neutralised Under Tinubu Administration

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has revealed that over 8,000 terrorists and bandits were neutralised across Nigeria in 2024 under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking during an assessment of the current administration’s performance, Matawalle attributed the significant security gains to the renewed operational strategies and leadership direction brought by President Tinubu.

In addition to the neutralisations, Matawalle stated that more than 11,600 criminals were arrested, and security forces recovered over 10,000 illegal firearms from various operations nationwide.

This information was contained in a statement released on Monday by Patience Ituke on behalf of the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence.

Matawalle praised President Tinubu’s transformative reforms, stating that these initiatives are setting the stage for a more secure and prosperous Nigeria — and could potentially secure him a second term in office by 2027.

The statement read in part: “Bello Matawalle lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his transformative reforms, asserting that these initiatives will pave the way for a brighter future for Nigeria and potentially secure Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.”

The minister highlighted key achievements of the administration, especially in security and defence. He cited the neutralisation of over 8,000 terrorists and bandits, the arrest of 11,600 criminals, and the recovery of more than 10,000 weapons in 2024 as major milestones.

He also noted the establishment of the Multi-Agency Anti-Kidnap Fusion Cell, which has significantly improved strategic coordination in the fight against kidnapping.

Matawalle went on to commend the administration’s economic initiatives, particularly the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development. According to him, this move is already contributing to a reduction in grain prices and boosting agricultural productivity in the North.

“The Ministry of Livestock Development aims to harness the North’s agricultural potential, drive economic growth, and empower millions of Nigerians,” he added.

On infrastructure, the minister pointed to ongoing road construction and transportation network upgrades as key drivers of economic development, especially in underserved areas.

Matawalle concluded by expressing confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, stating that the current trajectory of reforms will have a lasting positive impact on the nation and the lives of its citizens.
