#Tragedy in Ogun: Veteran OGTV Journalist Bukola Agbakaizu Dies Suddenly at 52

The Ogun State media community has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu, a seasoned broadcast journalist with Ogun State Television (OGTV), Abeokuta.

Agbakaizu reportedly collapsed on Monday while preparing for her afternoon shift at the state-owned station. Despite swift efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.

Her passing was confirmed by the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Mr. Bunmi Adigun, in a statement released on Tuesday night.

“Bukola, a dedicated staff member of OGTV, tragically slumped while getting ready for work. Her sudden departure is a profound loss to the union and the journalism profession,” Adigun said.

Describing her as a passionate and versatile media professional, Adigun noted that Bukola previously served as Vice Chairman of the OGTV Chapel and was a respected member of the Wale Olanrewaju-led NUJ Executive.

“Her vibrant energy, leadership, and unwavering commitment to journalism have left a deep void in our community,” he added.

At the time of her passing, Bukola Agbakaizu, aged 52, was serving as an ex-officio member of the NUJ Ogun State Council. She is survived by her two children, an elderly mother, colleagues, and numerous friends who held her in high regard.

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ogun State Chapter, also expressed shock and sorrow over her sudden death.

“Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu’s passing came as a rude shock. Her dedication, leadership, and compassion were deeply valued by all who knew her,” said Mrs. Sekinat Salam, chairperson of Ogun NAWOJ, in a condolence statement.

Salam praised her as a committed member of both NUJ and NAWOJ, highlighting her warmth, professionalism, and lasting legacy.

“Though she departed at 52, her contributions to the media and service to humanity will be remembered for years to come,” the statement read.

“We pray for peace for her soul and strength for the family she left behind. Rest in power, a true amazon of our profession.”

Agbakaizu’s death is a significant loss to the journalism community in Ogun State and beyond. Tributes continue to pour in, celebrating her life of service, excellence, and integrity in the media landscape.
