Nigerian Army troops from the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), in collaboration with Operation SAFE HAVEN, have neutralized two armed bandits and recovered 1,000 rustled cows in Taraba State.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops responded to reports of armed bandits—riding about 30 motorcycles—who had crossed into Karim Lamido Local Government Area from Plateau State. The assailants had launched a cattle-rustling raid on a Fulani settlement near Jebjeb Village.
The counter-offensive was part of Operation Lafiya Jama’a, a coordinated military campaign designed to combat banditry and criminal activities across Taraba and surrounding states.
Troops from 6 Brigade and Operation SAFE HAVEN, stationed in Kampani, Wase LGA (Plateau State), mobilized quickly and advanced toward Komodoro village in Karim Lamido LGA. Upon contact, the bandits—who had already fled across a river boundary into Daji Madam Forest in Plateau State—engaged the soldiers in a fierce gun battle.
According to a statement by Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, two of the bandits were neutralized, and 1,000 cattle were successfully recovered.
The livestock were safely herded back to the Jebjeb community, where arrangements are underway for proper identification and verification before returning the animals to their rightful owners.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, commended the swift and coordinated effort of the joint forces and reaffirmed the army’s commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal networks undermining peace in the region.
