The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially handed over a massive estate comprising 753 duplexes and apartments in Abuja, previously linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele, to the Federal Government.
The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, presented the property to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, during a formal handover ceremony held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in Abuja.
Although full details of the handover are yet to be made public, sources indicate that the federal government plans to sell the estate to interested Nigerians in a bid to recover public funds allegedly misappropriated.
The estate—located in the Lokogoma District of Abuja—spans 150,500 square meters and is situated on Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09. It was officially forfeited to the federal government by order of Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal High Court in Abuja on December 2, 2024.
In a statement released by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the estate represents the largest single asset recovery by the anti-graft agency since its inception in 2003.
Though the EFCC did not explicitly name Emefiele in the official statement, the property is widely believed to have been acquired through illicit means while he held public office.

The forfeiture followed an investigation under Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act No. 14 of 2006, and Section 44(2)(B) of the 1999 Constitution, which empower the government to seize assets acquired through criminal activity.
This development marks a significant milestone in the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to recover stolen public assets and hold former officials accountable for financial misconduct.
