Senators representing Osun State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing his achievements in infrastructure, economic reform, and national security.
In a joint statement on Wednesday, Senators Kamarudeen Oyewumi (Osun West), Olubiyi Ajagunla (Osun Central), and Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) said their endorsement reflects growing confidence in Tinubu’s leadership.
Operating under the banner of the Osun State Senators’ Caucus of the PDP, the lawmakers praised Tinubu’s administration for policies they say have led to a visible drop in food prices and improved national stability.
“This endorsement is not just symbolic — it reflects our deep confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to deliver on the promise of democracy,” the statement reads.
“The Osun PDP Senators’ Caucus is united and unwavering in its support. There is no internal dissent; we stand as one.”
Basiru Reacts, Calls for Full Defection to APC
Reacting to the endorsement, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a leading Osun gubernatorial hopeful, applauded the PDP senators for their “honest and patriotic stance.”
In a statement released by the Senator Ajibola Basiru Campaign Organisation (SABCO), spokesperson Professor Remi Ajala urged the senators to take the next logical step by officially joining the APC.
“We appreciate that these senators have acknowledged the Renewed Hope Agenda and how it is beginning to positively impact their constituencies,” the statement read.
“Pitching your tent with the APC will help bring the needed development to the Osun APC-led state government when inaugurated in 2026.”
The campaign further emphasized that their defection would strengthen political collaboration between the state and federal levels, enabling faster progress in infrastructure, education, and healthcare delivery.
“We call on the three Osun PDP senators to display courage and show real leadership by joining forces with progressive elements,” Basiru added.
“By fully integrating into the APC, they would not only validate their endorsement but also position their constituencies for greater federal support.”
The endorsement and the call for defection come at a time of shifting political alliances in anticipation of the 2027 general elections, with Tinubu’s administration seeking to consolidate influence across party lines.
