#Akpabio Declares Tinubu Sole 2027 Candidate, Mocks Opposition Parties as “Shredded”

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has proclaimed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the “sole candidate” for the 2027 presidential election, citing the disarray within opposition parties as a reason no other contender stands a chance.

Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit in Abuja, themed “Renewed Hope Agenda: The Journey So Far,” Akpabio praised Tinubu’s leadership and “political sagacity,” asserting that he remains the only viable choice for Nigerians in the next election.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political sagacity, even in challenging times, has set Nigeria on a path of growth—confirmed by the International Monetary Fund,” Akpabio said.

He then called on APC lawmakers in the National Assembly to join him in endorsing Tinubu for a second term.

“I move that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu be adopted as the sole candidate of the APC—and by extension, the sole candidate for Nigerians in 2027,” he declared.

Akpabio didn’t hold back in ridiculing rival parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), accusing them of being plagued by internal crises.

“All other political parties have been turned into shreds,” he said. “I went to my state and saw the PDP umbrella—it has over 100 holes.”

“The entire South-South has collapsed for APC. Nigerians are saying that because you have done a difficult job well, it is time to reward you with another term,” he added.

House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas seconded the motion, pledging support from both chambers of the National Assembly.

“I stand on behalf of the entire 109 senators, 360 reps, and all 36 state assemblies to second this motion,” Abbas stated.

This endorsement follows a similar declaration from the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), which had earlier announced Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential race.

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, chairman of the PGF, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to delivering full support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.
