The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed today, Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day — a U.S. federal holiday held on the last Monday of May each year.
The U.S. Mission in Nigeria made the announcement via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, noting that Memorial Day is dedicated to honouring American military personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The day is observed across the U.S. with solemn ceremonies, flag displays, and tributes to fallen servicemen and women.
As a result of the holiday, all routine consular services at both the Abuja Embassy and Lagos Consulate will be suspended for the day. Normal operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, May 27.

The Mission advised those in need of emergency consular assistance to visit its website for guidance and emergency contact information.
