The caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened an emergency meeting in Abuja on Monday to address growing internal conflicts and operational challenges facing the party.
The closed-door session took place at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge and focused heavily on the escalating tensions involving Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike. Wike recently withdrew from ongoing peace talks, accusing prominent party figures—including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde—of dishonesty.
Key PDP leaders present at the meeting included Acting National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum; Governors Peter Mbah (Enugu), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum. Other notable attendees were Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, PDP Board of Trustees member Ben Obi, retired Navy Commodore Olabode George, former Information Minister Jerry Gana, former Niger State Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, former PDP Ministers’ Forum Chair Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, and former Women Affairs Minister Josephine Anenih.
A party insider revealed, “The Board of Trustees is working to resolve issues with Wike. He pulled out of the peace talks and accused leaders like Seyi Makinde of dishonesty.”
The meeting came just hours after the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) sealed the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, on the orders of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
“They’re also addressing the operational disruption caused by the party headquarters being shut down due to unpaid rent. That’s why the meeting is being held at the Bauchi Governors’ Lodge instead,” the source added.
