#Viral Story on Diezani Alison-Madueke Begging Tinubu is False

FACT CHECK ON DIEZANI ALISON MADUEKE’S PLEA TO PRESIDENT TINUBU FOR LENIENCY IS FALSE BASED ON THE INVESTIVE REPORT OF HEADLINENEWS.NEWS

The claim that former Nigerian Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke publicly begged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for leniency to return home and confess to financial misconduct due to her battle with cancer is false.

While several media outlets reported such a plea, Diezani Alison-Madueke has denied granting any interview or making such statements. She described the reports as “fake” and “concocted,” clarifying that she did not speak to any journalists or issue any public plea to President Tinubu.

Furthermore, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) initially shared a post containing the alleged statements on its Instagram handle but later deleted it. The EFCC’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, stated that the post was not authorized, indicating that the commission did not officially endorse the content.

Diezani Alison-Madueke is currently facing legal proceedings in the United Kingdom related to separate bribery allegations. The Nigerian government has also been seeking her extradition to face charges of money laundering and corruption. As of now, there is no official confirmation or credible evidence supporting the claim that she has made a public plea to return to Nigeria under the circumstances described in the viral reports.

Therefore, the narrative of Diezani Alison-Madueke begging President Tinubu for leniency to return home and confess due to her cancer diagnosis is unsubstantiated and should be regarded as false.
