#Lady Who Mistakenly Sent ₦800,000 to Wrong GTBank Account Gets Police Involved, Receiver Admits to Spending It All

A Nigerian lady who mistakenly transferred ₦800,000 to the wrong GTBank account has shared an update, revealing that the recipient has been arrested after refusing to refund the money.

The lady, who initially cried out on social media for help, said the recipient ignored all pleas to return the funds and instead spent it on fabrics for her business.

According to an update shared by @ii_kach on X (formerly Twitter), the GTBank account holder confessed to spending the entire sum and claimed she had no money left.

“UPDATE ON THE 800k ERRONEOUS TRANSFER: The lady has been caught by the police. She admitted to spending it all on fabrics for her business and claims she has no money left. She also said she was expecting ₦1m from someone that same day. Her brother has made a deposit of ₦300k.”

The victim explained that she had previously called and texted the recipient, pleading for a refund. However, the woman not only refused but also threatened legal action if contacted again.

“Prior to her arrest, I had called her regarding the return of my money. I pleaded with her to send the money back… she threatened to sue me if I contacted her again,” she said.

In a follow-up comment, the sender revealed that she had already made significant expenses based on the assumption she would recover the money.

“Since May 2nd, I made expenses of almost half the money. It pained me. I really wanted her to go to jail. She should just thank my mom — that’s her saving grace. We had to consider… she has kids. She should just pay me back and all expenses made.”

Even after being arrested, the recipient reportedly had no money on her and could not make any refund. It was her brother who eventually paid ₦300,000 as partial compensation.

Social Media Reactions

The incident sparked widespread reactions online, with many demanding strict punishment for the woman.

  • @Regtales25: “Carry her go her house, pack everything of value. She’ll get them back when she settles the debt.”
  • @Iranola65: “She should spend at least a week in detention. A thief is a thief.”
  • @lazydebbie3: “I sincerely prayed she got caught. Please don’t release her until she pays every last kobo.”
