The Labour Party’s Governorship Candidate for the November 2025 Anambra State election, Chief Dr. George Moghalu, has officially named Mrs. Ifeoma Veronica Okaro as his running mate, describing the partnership as both strategic and visionary.
At the official unveiling ceremony held in Abuja, Dr. Moghalu praised Okaro as “a woman of unshakable integrity, seasoned educationist, tested leader, and tireless advocate for public service, grassroots development, and church involvement.”
The former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) emphasized that her selection followed extensive consultation and was based on merit and a distinguished track record in public service and education.
“After careful deliberation and wide consultation, I am proud to present Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro as my running mate. Anambra will be better for it with her onboard,” he stated.
Mrs. Okaro brings more than 40 years of experience to the ticket. She currently serves as the President of the Women’s Wing of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), and is the immediate past Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC). She also previously served as Education Director under the Diocese on the Niger Education Board.
Her contributions to education have earned her numerous accolades, including the Presidential Award for Best Public Secondary School Administrator in Nigeria. She is widely respected for her grassroots mobilization skills and commitment to community development.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Okaro expressed deep gratitude and a strong sense of responsibility:
“This opportunity isn’t just for me — it’s for the millions of women across Anambra. You’ve reminded us that when you educate a woman, you educate a nation.”
She pledged to rally women across the state and run an inclusive, people-driven campaign:
“We will not disappoint. We will mobilize, we will serve, and — with the people — we will win.”
Her selection has been widely praised as a bold step by the Labour Party toward gender inclusion, equity, and service-oriented leadership.
Commenting on the development, Labour Party stalwart Mr. OCN Okafor said:
“The Moghalu–Okaro ticket offers Anambra a blend of experience, empathy, and development-focused leadership. This is more than a political campaign — it is a movement built on hope and integrity.”
Mrs. Okaro, a devout Anglican from Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area, is a former Principal Special-Grade at Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS) and was popularly referred to as the “Principal of All Principals” in Anambra State.
Her addition to the ticket is widely seen as a game-changing move that strengthens the Labour Party’s bid to take over governance in Anambra come November 2025.
