INEC Nullifies PDP NEC Meeting: Wike Declares Victory as Anyanwu’s Authority Reinstated

By Headlinenews.news Political Desk

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally nullified the recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a decisive turn in the escalating internal crisis that has plagued Nigeria’s main opposition party. The development is being hailed as a major political victory for the camp of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who had earlier declared that the meeting “will not stand”—and now, officially, it hasn’t.

At the heart of the controversy lies the position of the PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, whose signature is constitutionally required to convene a valid NEC meeting. INEC, in a letter dated June 17, 2025, categorically stated that the party violated its own constitution by convening the NEC without the endorsement of Anyanwu, thereby rendering the outcome of the meeting invalid and legally void.

“Political parties must adhere strictly to their constitutional provisions, especially when it comes to leadership and decision-making processes. The NEC meeting of the PDP held without the National Secretary’s signature does not meet the requirements of due process,” the INEC letter stated.
