Wike claims Tinubu conference centre made N650m in 3 weeks, says ‘people are rushing it’

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that the newly renovated Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre generated N650 million in revenue just three weeks after its inauguration.

Wike made the disclosure during a media chat held in Abuja on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

According to him, the FCT previously earned only N50 million annually from the facility before its renovation. “Let me tell you how this country works. The man who was managing the centre paid just N50 million to the FCT each year. That same facility, commissioned on June 10, has made N650 million in just three weeks. Why? Because people love quality,” he stated.

Wike added that the centre’s improved standard has attracted high-profile events, including the recent Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) summit hosted by President Bola Tinubu. “You should see the feedback from ambassadors. The place is now fully booked until 2027,” he noted.

He also addressed the backlash he faced after temporarily shutting down the facility for renovation. “In this country, if you get distracted by trivial complaints, you’ll never get anything done,” he said.

Responding to criticism over naming the upgraded complex after President Tinubu, Wike defended the decision: “People are asking why I named it after Tinubu. Who else is more deserving?”

The FCT administration had earlier come under scrutiny for spending N39 billion on the renovation project, with many questioning the cost and the naming of the edifice.
