11 Students Arrested Over Alleged Killing of Two Schoolboys in Kano

KANO, July 16, 2025— The Kano State Police Command has arrested 11 students in connection with the brutal killing of two secondary school students in Bichi Local Government Area. The tragic incident, which has sparked outrage across the state, reportedly occurred late Monday night.

According to reports, the victims were attacked by a group of fellow students over alleged accusations of homosexuality. Four students were assaulted in the attack, with two beaten to death at the scene. The remaining two sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Bichi General Hospital for urgent medical attention.

“One of the teachers informed us that what was initially described as a student fight turned out to be a targeted assault,” a source close to the school told Daily Trust. “The victims were accused of being homosexuals and severely beaten. Two died instantly.”

Another source confirmed that the surviving students are still receiving treatment at the hospital.

Spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrests on Wednesday and stated that a full investigation is underway. He assured the public that all those found culpable will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The incident has prompted swift action from state authorities. Kano State Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Makoda, through the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashir Baffa, has ordered an immediate and transparent probe.

“This is an unfortunate and tragic event,” Makoda said. “The Kano State Government is committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring that justice is served without bias.”

Makoda also offered condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of the state government and its people, praying for the victims to be granted Jannatul Firdaus.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, Alhaji Abbas Abdullahi, described the incident as “disturbing” and urged students to exercise caution and refrain from vigilante actions.

As investigations continue, the state government and law enforcement authorities are under pressure to ensure justice and address growing concerns about violence, discrimination, and student safety in schools.
