Abuja — Senator Shehu Sani has fired back at former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over his recent claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is making unauthorized deductions from state allocations. In a scathing interview, the former lawmaker dismissed the allegations as “deliberate falsehood rooted in personal bitterness.”
Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, accused El-Rufai of hypocrisy, claiming the ex-governor was guilty of multiple impeachable offenses while in office, including financial mismanagement.
“The real issue isn’t Tinubu—it’s El-Rufai’s bruised ego over not being appointed a Minister,” Senator Sani stated. “Nigerians should ignore ratings built on ego and vendetta, not facts.”
The Senator’s remarks come in response to growing criticism of the Tinubu administration from key northern political figures, many of whom analysts believe are positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sani’s intervention is seen as a direct challenge to El-Rufai’s influence, especially within northern political circles. His comments also highlight deepening rifts within the All Progressives Congress (APC), as internal power struggles and personal grievances continue to play out in public.
Observers say the war of words signals mounting political tension and a potential realignment of northern elites, with implications for both the presidency and the ruling party’s unity.
