President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was warmly received in Kano on Thursday during a high-profile condolence visit to the family of the late Alhaji Aminu Dantata, the revered industrialist and philanthropist who passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 91.

The late Dantata, widely regarded as one of the most influential businessmen in Northern Nigeria, was a pillar of philanthropy, commerce, and civic engagement. His death marks the end of an era, and condolences have continued to pour in from across the country and the international community.

President Tinubu arrived at the Aminu Dantata family compound, accompanied by top aides, and was received by members of the Dantata family, including business magnate Aliko Dangote and other prominent Northern leaders. The President offered prayers for the repose of the late elder statesman and expressed heartfelt condolences to the grieving family.

In a show of national unity and statesmanship, the President took time to meet with influential Northern figures and stakeholders during the visit. Among those he conferred with was Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, one of Nigeria’s foremost elder statesmen and a symbol of political history and continuity. The encounter between Tinubu and Yakasai was both symbolic and telling—two figures representing distinct eras in Nigerian political development, united in mourning and reflection.

Also present were leading Kano politicians, traditional rulers, and community leaders. President Tinubu used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to national unity, security, and inclusive development. He emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy of visionaries like Dantata by building a Nigeria rooted in enterprise, integrity, and social responsibility.

“This visit is not just about condolence. It’s about honoring a man whose contributions helped shape this country,” President Tinubu reportedly said during a private moment with the family. “Alhaji Aminu Dantata embodied humility, wisdom, and generosity. We must emulate his example in public service and nation-building.”

The visit was also viewed by many political observers as a strategic gesture, reaffirming President Tinubu’s stronghold and wide appeal in the North, especially in Kano, a key political powerhouse in Nigeria. His ability to connect with stakeholders across religious, ethnic, and generational lines continues to position him as a central figure in Nigerian politics.

Though the mood was somber, the gathering served as a subtle reaffirmation of Tinubu’s enduring political capital. His interactions with Northern leaders once again demonstrated his far-reaching influence beyond Lagos and the South-West.

As Tinubu prepares for more domestic engagements, including an upcoming visit to Ogun State to commiserate with the family of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, analysts say such visits are not only acts of empathy, but also important gestures of political reinforcement in a diverse and complex federation.
