The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has commended Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for appointing Alhaji Shehu Usman, Chairman of Mile 12 International Market, to the Lagos State Market Advisory Committee. He described the appointment as “both timely and well-deserved.”

The Emir praised Shehu Usman for his exceptional leadership, visionary thinking, and unifying presence, noting his instrumental role in fostering peace and cohesion within both the Mile 12 market and the wider northern community in Lagos.

According to the Emir, Shehu Usman’s persistent efforts to mend long-standing divisions within the Arewa community have led to significant progress. He highlighted Usman’s humility, wisdom, and dedication to unity, which played a crucial role in the establishment of a reconciliation committee. This initiative successfully unified previously divided Arewa factions and led to the emergence of Alhaji Saadu Gulma as Chairman of the now-unified Arewa community in Lagos.

Emir Sanusi emphasized that Shehu Usman’s efforts have laid a solid foundation for the advancement of northern interests in Lagos. His ability to navigate complex social dynamics and promote peaceful coexistence has earned him widespread admiration across generations.

He further urged members of the Arewa community to follow Shehu Usman’s example by remaining peaceful, law-abiding, and supportive of government initiatives, stressing that lasting development is only possible through unity and mutual respect.
Today, Mile 12 International Market is recognized as a model of inclusive leadership and social integration—thanks in large part to the enduring impact of Alhaji Shehu Usman’s exemplary service.
