The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to announce its zoning arrangement for the 2027 general elections on August 25, 2025, in a move expected to trigger one of the most fiercely contested presidential primaries in the party’s history.
According to The Nigerian Tribune, the party’s election timetable, signed by National Organising Secretary Umar M. Bature, outlines a programme running from August 24 to December 2025. The process will culminate in the PDP’s national convention, slated for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, who chairs the zoning committee, will present the panel’s recommendations to the National Executive Committee (NEC) for approval. The PDP constitution, under Section 7(2)(c), provides for the rotation and zoning of party and public offices to ensure fairness and equity.
The zoning decision comes amid mounting speculation that former President Goodluck Jonathan, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed could join the presidential race.
Party officials say the outcome of the zoning process will be critical in shaping the PDP’s electoral strategy for 2027. Former National Vice Chairman Eddy Olafeso noted that the party is “working tirelessly to rescue the nation from its current challenges” and will collaborate with Nigerians to provide lasting solutions.
