The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State says its membership has crossed the 800,000 mark, following the defection of several high-profile political figures in the build-up to the 2027 general elections.
Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt over the weekend, ADC State Publicity Secretary Luckyman Egila announced that two former governors — Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia — have officially joined the party.
Egila further revealed that former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus is now an ADC member, alongside former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Chief Austin Okpara and former Minister of Transport Dr. Abiye Sekibo.
“These leaders have left their previous parties and are now fully committed members of the ADC,” Egila said, describing the party as “a beautiful bride” drawing respected political heavyweights from across the state.
The wave of defections, observers say, is set to significantly alter Rivers State’s political dynamics as the countdown to the 2027 polls begins.
