FAAN Resumes Direct Cargo Revenue Collection at Lagos Airport After 15 Years

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has officially resumed direct revenue collection at the cargo terminals of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, marking the end of a 15-year pause.

In a statement released on Saturday by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, the agency confirmed that officials from its Directorate of Cargo Development and Services have been deployed to the cargo release points of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) and Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO). These officials will now oversee real-time collection of accrued cargo charges.

FAAN described the move as a “landmark achievement” that will help plug revenue leakages, boost accountability, and enhance operational efficiency across Nigeria’s air cargo value chain.

The initiative, launched in collaboration with the PTC Customs Area Command led by Comptroller T. Awe, is also expected to streamline cargo operations and improve the ease of doing business in the aviation sector.

According to the agency, the success of this model at MMIA will serve as a blueprint for implementation at other airports nationwide, reflecting FAAN’s commitment to transparency, inter-agency collaboration, and revenue optimization.
