TODAY FRIDAY JUMMAT 05 Rabi ul Awal 1447 AH (29th Aug, 2025)

Today, being Friday (Jumu‘ah) and the 5th of Rabee‘ al-Awwal 1447 AH, is a blessed day in Islam. Friday is described by the Prophet ﷺ as the best day of the week, and Rabee‘ al-Awwal is the month of his birth, making it spiritually uplifting. Here are some special prayers and practices you can focus on today:

Core Sunnah Acts for Jumu‘ah

1. Recite Surah Al-Kahf
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever recites Surah al-Kahf on Friday, it will be a light for him until the next Friday.” (Al-Hakim, Al-Bayhaqi).

2. Abundant Salawat (Durūd/Salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ)
This month (Rabee‘ al-Awwal) is especially tied to honoring the Prophet ﷺ. Today, increase in:

Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad wa ‘ala aali Muhammad kama sallayta ‘ala Ibraheem wa ‘ala aali Ibraheem innaka Hameedun Majeed.

3. Making Du‘ā between Asr and Maghrib
This time on Friday is known as the “hour of acceptance” (sa‘at al-ijabah).

Recommended Du‘ās for Today

You can make any heartfelt dua in your language, but here are some spiritually uplifting ones:

1. Dua for Forgiveness

Allahumma inni astaghfiruka min kulli dhanbin wa atoobu ilayk.
(O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness for every sin and turn to You in repentance.)

2. Dua for Light and Guidance (Qur’an 66:8)

> Rabbanaa atmim lanaa nooranaa waghfir lanaa innaka ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer.
(Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things competent.)

3. Dua for Protection and Mercy

Allahumma inni a‘udhu bika min zawali ni‘matika, wa tahawwuli ‘aafiyatika, wa fujaa’ati niqmatika, wa jamee‘i sakhatika.
(O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the loss of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and from all forms of Your displeasure.)

Spiritually Uplifting Acts

Give charity, even if small. Charity on Friday carries multiplied rewards.

Read extra Qur’an (especially Surah Yaseen, Surah Rahman, Surah Waqi‘ah).

Make dua for the Ummah, for peace, relief, and unity.

Reminder: The best prayer today is to send salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ and to ask Allah for forgiveness and guidance.

AWUJALE:LET THE GODS AVENGE THEMSELVES.

Awujale Sikiru Adetona never hid his disdain for what the yorubas called isese. He jettisoned his relationship with all forms of traditional worship and dared the Ogbonis, the dreaded Agemo cult group and similar groups to do their worst. He visited anywhere where taboo forbade him.
Many years ago,he withdrew from participating in the dreaded Agemo festival. At a point, the Agemos were said to have given him a year to live after he openly insulted them. He lived to the ripe old age of 91.

The holy books, the Bible and the Quran are replete with situations where God avenged Himself after being disparaged

Romans 12:19(NKJV) says:
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

The Quran does not explicitly state “let God avenge himself.” However, several verses speak to God’s justice and retribution, emphasizing that He is the ultimate judge and avenger. For example, Surah Al-An’am (6:102-103) states that God is the creator and sustainer of all things, and that He is aware of everything. This implies that He has the power to avenge, but also the wisdom to judge justly. Additionally, Surah Al-Baqarah (2:194) discusses the principle of “an eye for an eye” in the context of fighting in the sacred month, suggesting that retribution is permissible when done justly and under God’s guidance.

There abound examples in yoruba mythology of gods who took the battle to those who disrespected them.
Sango was betrayed by his most trusted general when he was in human form. Upon his death, whether self inflicted or murder, he transformed back as an Orisa and set the kingdom ablaze in retribution. His people never took Sango and his power for granted again.

The ijebu Kingdom has been inundated with cries that the Awujale was buried contrary to tradition. And as such very dire consequences will follow. What it is that would happen no one has told us. The offence we were told was against the alales (that is the gods of the land)
If indeed the gods have the powers ascribed to them then noone needs to defend them or even be their mouthpiece. Let the gods avenge themselves!

I was born in Ilese-Ijebu. The Elese of Ilese is one of the Obas who cannot see the Awujale. I find this tradition not only ridiculous but absolutely against good conscience and a breach of fundamental rights.
I do hope that when a new Awujale comes to Ilese to wear the first crown as an oba, both he and the Elese would sort out whatever the issue that gave birth to this ridiculous tradition and be able to see each other. The new Awujale would fraternise with the Elese after his coronation. Enough of this otiose tradition!
Awujale Adetona while alive gave notice of how he wished to be buried. He ensured that there is a law to back up his wishes. The law has been followed. The alales know all those who ganged up to do this. Let the gods pursue them!
There is no doubt that Awujale Adetona had a long reign and longetivity made him an orisa of some sort. That perhaps was the reason why noone dared to challenge his beliefs even when he wrote a two hundred and seventy five page book about it. Modernisation of the obaship institution was a plus for him. We cannot be talking of human sacrifice in 2025.The so called burial rites are disgraceful, demeaning, fundamentally a breach of rights of humanity. I witnessed one so many years back as a young ijebu lad. The body of the deceased Oba was tied by the neck and dragged throughout the community in the dead of the night!
Let each Oba die in dignity without his remains being mutilated and his remains buried instalmentally. This is one sure way of attracting quality people to ijebu thrones. Take a census of ijebu obas. We have lawyers, medical doctors, captains of industries and highly successful men in diverse fields.
If indeed the gods are aggrieved about Awujale Adetona’s stance on burial of Obas and the manner he was buried, let the gods avenge themselves!

Everyone is going one by one..
No one knows who will be the next.
So the question to ask ourselves is;

– What is our contribution to Islam and this ummah?
– How good is our relationship with the Qur’an?
– How good is our relationship with Allah SWT?
– How good is our relationship with our parents and family?
– Are we striving enough to become better Muslims?
– Are we making enough tawbah (repentance)?
– How is our five daily prayers?
– Are we being kind / good enough to the creations of Allah SWT?
– Do we have good deeds that we do secretly that is between just us and Allah SWT?
– Do we have enough good deeds to show off on the day of standing?
– Are we seeking Allāh SWT forgiveness on a daily basis?
– Are we seeking the pleasure of Allah SWT enough or following our desires?
– Are we being helpful to our Muslim brothers, sisters, parents, families?
– Are we earning in a halal way?
– Do we put Allah SWT first in all what we do?
– Are our intentions always pure or we are doing it to show off?
– Are we trying our best to follow the Sunnah of our beloved prophet (pbuh)?
– Are we spending enough time in the rememberance of Allah SWT?

The questions never finishes. Holding ourselves accountable and asking ourselves that “if death were to meet us in this state, would Allah SWT be pleased with us???

No one is ever perfect. And Allah SWT is not in need of perfect beings, he only needs servants who sins, admit to their sins, regret it and repent!
” Indeed Allāh loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves” (Q2 vs 222)

And never think Allāh SWT will never forgive us because we think we’ve committed sins that are beyond the mercy of Allah SWT. Allah SWT’s mercy and forgiveness is beyond what we can imagine. As long as we’re still breathing, there’s still an opportunity to turn back to Allah SWT no matter what we’ve done. “But whoever repents after his or her wrongdoings and reforms, Indeed, Allāh will turn to him or her in forgiveness. Indeed Allāh is forgiving and merciful (Q5 vs 39).

Dear beloved Brothers and Sisters, let’s make a change now!
May Almighty Allāh SWT guide us all, accept our little efforts, make us the best version of ourselves, grant us more Emāān, Taqwa, Hidāyah, Steadfastness and grant us a good ending – Aamiin.

As this will serve as sadaqah for you and me biidhnillah, Don’t stop sharing.
As this might serve as a way out for our brothers and sisters drowning in the pool of their sins.
And finally Allāh SWT says; (Say ” O my servants who have transgressed against themselves (by sinning), do not despair of the mercy of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh forgives all sins. Indeed it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful (Q39 vs 53).

May Allah SWT Rewards us all with beneficial goodness. ✨
