The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Christopher Enweremadu, a former Abia State commissioner, wanted over allegations of criminal conspiracy, diversion of public funds, stealing, and money laundering.
This was disclosed in a notice signed on Wednesday by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity at the Commission.
The EFCC listed Enweremadu’s last known address as the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Umuahia, Abia State, and urged anyone with useful information about his whereabouts to contact any of its zonal offices nationwide.
“Anybody with useful information as to his whereabouts should please contact the Commission in its Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt or Abuja offices,” the notice read.
Enweremadu, who served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters under former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, has previously been linked to probes into the handling of funds for Abia’s 17 local government councils.
In December 2024, an FCT High Court in Abuja ordered the EFCC to investigate allocations to the LGAs between 2019 and 2023, also directing the seizure of Enweremadu’s international passport along with those of two other officials.
The case followed an activist’s petition alleging billions of naira earmarked for local governments were mismanaged under the officials’ watch.
The EFCC has not yet released further details on the transactions tied to the fresh wanted notice.
