The Ogun State Government has appointed 1,200 political assistants in a bid to deepen democratic participation and enhance governance at the grassroots level.
In a statement, Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, said the move reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance across all parts of the state.
According to him, the appointees — drawn from the state’s 236 wards, with five representatives per ward — are expected to serve as a direct link between the people and the government.
“The newly appointed political assistants will support the delivery of democratic dividends, articulate the needs of their respective wards, and communicate these needs to the state government. They are also expected to provide accurate feedback from the government to the wards and vice versa,” Akinmade said.
He added that the initiative fulfills Governor Abiodun’s electoral pledge to involve every ward in shaping development programs and policies, ensuring no community is left behind.
The state government urged the new aides to actively contribute to the progress of their wards, local governments, and Ogun State as a whole.
