Bandit leader who allegedly killed 34 Katsina worshippers attends peace meeting in Faskari

A photo has emerged showing Babaro, a notorious bandit leader accused of killing dozens of worshippers, attending a peace dialogue in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State on Sunday.

Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, who shared the image on X, identified Babaro as a key figure terrorising the Kankara and Malumfashi areas. He alleged that Babaro led the recent deadly attack on worshippers in Mantau, Malumfashi LGA, where 32 people were killed and several others injured during Isha prayers.

Another analyst, Bakatsine, confirmed that Faskari residents and bandits reached a peace agreement during the meeting. The terms reportedly included mutual forgiveness, unarmed entry of bandits into communities, guarantees for safe farming and grazing, and the release of captives without ransom.

“Peace deal in Faskari LGA, Katsina State as residents and bandits agree on unarmed entry into town by bandits, safe farming/grazing, mutual forgiveness, captives freed without ransom. Notorious figures like Ado Aleru, Babaro and Kwashen-garwa attended,” Bakatsine posted.

The participation of figures linked to deadly attacks has raised concerns about justice, with critics warning that such moves may perpetuate impunity and erode public trust.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the development.
