Hon. Jafar Abubakar, member of the House of Representatives for Mubi North, Mubi South, and Maiha Federal Constituency of Adamawa State, has reportedly disbursed ₦224 million in cash to youths and childhood friends in his constituency.
According to reports, ₦124 million was earmarked for youth empowerment, while ₦100 million was given to boyhood friends whom he described as struggling financially. The funds, withdrawn from a commercial bank in mint notes, were shared directly.
A Facebook user, Isah Garba Mayo, who shared details of the initiative, explained that it was executed in two phases. In the first phase, Point of Sale (POS) operators received machines and ₦200,000 each, though some got slightly less due to oversubscription. This segment alone accounted for ₦124 million.
The second phase provided capital to traders and entrepreneurs, while also extending support to retired politicians and retirees from both public and private sectors facing economic hardship.
While distributing the funds, Abubakar stressed that over 85 percent of the empowerment package directly benefits young people. He assured constituents that the programme is designed to be continuous, with disbursements planned every five months and at least three more cycles before the next election.
He urged those yet to benefit to be patient, promising their turn would come.
