Tragedy struck in Akure, Ondo State, after a woman allegedly killed her elder sister during a dispute over an ₦800 debt for tomatoes and pepper.
The suspect, Bosede Iluyemi, a middle-aged trader, reportedly confronted her sister, Omowumi Tewogboye, over the unpaid money. Eyewitnesses said the quarrel escalated into a physical struggle when Bosede allegedly grabbed Omowumi by her clothes, causing her to fall.
Omowumi was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival, sparking shock and grief in the community.

Police Confirm Arrest
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of the suspect. Its spokesperson, DSP Olusola Ayanlade, described the incident as tragic and assured the public that justice would be served.
“The suspect is currently in custody. This is a tragic incident, and the matter is under thorough investigation,” Ayanlade said.
Community in Shock
Residents of the neighbourhood expressed disbelief that such a minor debt could end in bloodshed.
“This is heartbreaking. We all buy and sell on credit in the market. Nobody expected something like this could end a life,” a neighbour lamented.
The incident has reignited concerns about market disputes in local communities, where credit-based transactions are common but often lead to tension.
Family in Mourning
Omowumi’s sudden death has left her family devastated, with many describing it as a needless and painful loss over a paltry sum.
Bosede remains in police custody as investigations continue.
